2009 Herald Sun | CityLink Run for the Kids – raises over $500,000
Melbourne streets were transformed as 26,415 runners took part in the second annual Herald Sun | CityLink Run for the Kids fun run.
The event, held on Sunday 1 April, raised $536,369 for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. This is a $129,400 increase from last year.
The atmosphere was full over excitement and goodwill as thousands of Australian’s ran through CityLink’s Domain Tunnel and over the Bolte Bridge, and all for one common goal – to help the kids.
The event is Victoria’s biggest fun run, and the second biggest on a national scale (behind Sydney’s City to Surf).
Lee Troop, a double Olympian coached by former marathon champion Steve Moneghetti, won the men's race. And Anna Thompson, who just returned from the world cross country championships in Kenya won the women’s race.
CityLink and the Herald Sun would like to thank all participants and volunteers for taking part in this extraordinary event!
And its on again in 2010 on Sunday March 14.
Commonwealth Games
CityLink was an Official Provider for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
CityLink waived tolls for the Melbourne 2006 Official Vehicle fleet. This allowed organisers, officials and especially the athletes to get to their training and competition venues quickly and ready to perform at their peak.
For the public, there were toll-free periods of travel on sections of CityLink when ceremonies and events required the closure of other roads.
CityLink School Support Program
CityLink currently provides funding to each of the 10 schools within 600 metres of CityLink. The funds are intended to support school programs that build the self-esteem and well-being of children. Some programs funded include:

- A 'You Can Do It' program to build confidence, persistence, organisation and social skills in children
- Supporting a 10-week buddies and peer support program targeting years 3 and 4
- Providing a Breakfast Program for those who might miss breakfast at home
- Providing assistance to ensure optimum participation in school excursions and camps
General CityLink community sponsorships
A pool of funds is allocated every year to support a range of community sponsorships under the CityLink brand. The sponsorships are intended to support programs that enhance or protect the environment in which CityLink operates, or contribute to the amenity, economic development or well-being of one of our neighbouring communities. Sponsorships include local festivals, environmental programs and community arts initiatives.
