Another life saving red cross

The variable signs, located above the freeway communicate messages to drivers from a control centre, so that traffic flow can be managed in the event of an accident, speed limits can be changed and on-ramps and lanes can be closed. This enables swift access for emergency vehicles as roads can be cleared quickly. Please look for and obey these new signs.

A RED X sign means the lane is closed.  Lanes are closed for a reason - an accident, or a road crew is working

Under the Road Safety Rules 2009, disobeying overhead lane signs could incur a fine of over $1,000.

Never drive in lane marked with a red cross. The life saved could be yours.
