IMPORTANT: New signs on the Bolte Bridge and West Gate Freeway
New signs have been installed on the Bolte Bridge and West Gate Freeway to help you get more from using CityLink.
They are designed to give you clearer directions to the City and Melbourne Airport and help reduce morning peak congestion on the Bolte Bridge, which should improve your travel times.
New signs on the Bolte Bridge between the Footscray Road onramp and the West Gate Freeway clearly direct City and South Bank bound traffic to the left hand lane and exit ramp to Montague Street.
The new signs on the West Gate Freeway between the Domain Tunnel and the West Gate Bridge more clearly identify the route to Melbourne Airport.
The changes have been made in response to customer feedback and traffic monitoring.
Our traffic data over recent months shows that about 15% of the people using the dedicated Burnley Tunnel ramp are going to the CBD. Initial trials also indicate, as expected, that they would have quicker trip to the City or South Bank by using the left lane exit ramp.
VicRoads is upgrading the signs on the West Gate Freeway to clearly mark the routes to Melbourne Airport. Customers have indicated that the route is unclear, particularly for occasional users who are unfamiliar with the route.
In the coming months we will complete the third lane into the Burnley Tunnel and open the fourth lane inbound from the Monash Freeway to the Domain Tunnel.
We are confident that these changes will help you get more from using CityLink. Visit our CityLink Channel on YouTube to view one of the recommended routes into the City from the Bolte Bridge.
